Test Drive for hospital-at-home
First, some background context
Hospital-at-home (HaH) is a win-win. Patients recover faster, and health systems free beds for more patients.
But staffing decisions are hard. Because patients are geographically distributed, drive time, weather, and traffic all impact whether clinicians visit the right patient at the right time.
Test Drive helps teams test different staffing decisions before the day even begins.
How many clinicians do we need for tomorrow's census?
What if a storm causes inclement weather?
What if we admit 5 new patients?
Test Drive works by simulating hundreds of patient census, geography, and traffic scenarios to determine how staffing needs change accordingly—using open source data from trusted mapping provider OpenRouteService and routing algorithms from Google.
To see how the tool works, we'll walk through a single simulated day. Then, we'll preview results for a few different scenarios.
This model uses only synthetic data. No patient names or addresses were used in development. The underlying assumptions are based on interviews with dozens of HaH leaders and clinicians, so while the data itself is synthetic, it's grounded in realistic operating conditions. These assumptions may change as we continue validating the model.
This is still a prototype. Please don't base live decisions on it yet. The underlying data and assumptions are still being validated.
